The Story From 1993 To Present
| Picture to follow |
In the spring of 1993, City Councilman Rick Dumas of
Marathon fueled the flames of interest among other Harley-Davidson riders
about starting a local HOG Chapter. People came from White River,
Dubriville, Manitouadge, and Marathon.
The first meeting was held in August 1993, at the Marathon Bowling Lanes,
with Ontario Regional Director Ron Thertell helping to set up guidelines
and explaining what was involved in this undertaking. Ted at Thunder
Bay Harley-Davidson was contacted and became the Sponsoring Dealer.
The first Executive Officers election was held on September 11, 1993 at
Rick's camp. Ted met with the Executive in January 1994 to get acquainted
and discuss the direction the group wanted to go. The rest is history. |
| It became clear that the Chapter was going to make their
mark on the community in a positive way as they took out adds in the paper
during Motorcycle awareness month, reminding motorists to look out for
bikers during the spring riding season. |

The next thing they did was to donate money to local causes,
such as the Youth Bowling Council. |
| The Marathon Sick Children's Fund was also a recipient of a
donation from the Chapter as they continued to give back to the community
as money was available. |

When Money was not plentiful the Chapter gave of their time
and talents as they restored a picnic area on the highway that had gotten
rundown. |
